My Red Thumb Day is back for a seventh year - we would love it if there was no need for such a day but sadly some drivers are still not getting the message.
Most of us make a choice to be safe and concentrate on our driving. However, recent evidence from the RAC shows that people are still putting their lives and the lives of others at risk - such is their addiction to their mobile phone."17% of all drivers say they check texts, email or social media while driving, despite the heightened level of risk involved in looking away from the road for seconds at a time." We want everyone to break the habit and by showing your support for MyRedThumb Day on 12th May you can help us to share this life-saving message.
We are once again working with our brilliant partner agencies from the emergency services, local councils and road safety partnerships. This year we will be with partner agencies at Princesshay in Exeter talking to members of the public about the campaign. We would love to hear what you have planned in your local communities to promote the day. Please join us on social media and let us know what you are doing this year to spread the word and send in your thumb selfies both before the day and on the day so we can share them across our channels. Wouldn’t it be amazing if on 12th May nobody was involved in a crash caused by someone being distracted by a mobile phone.
